10th April 2020 – Reasons to stay positive

As we head into what promises to be a sunny Easter weekend (or sunny start to the weekend at least), I’m looking for extra reasons to be positive today.

How’s about these for starters?

  • Initial research still suggests that warmer weather will slow the spread of the disease. Another reason to be grateful for the beautiful sunshine we currently have?

  • As of yesterday (Thursday) morning, the number of people confirmed to have had the virus and died had risen by 938 to 7,097. Although that is 7,097 cases too many, it is still lower than expected if deaths had been following their long-term trend of doubling every three to four days.

  • Both Nottingham and Leicester are faring “well” in terms of the number of confirmed cases relative to their populations, with both cities and both counties sitting in the lowest third of Sky News’ regional tracker

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-uk-tracker-how-many-cases-are-in-your-area-updated-daily-11956258

    • Leicester: 70.4 confirmed cases per 100,000 of population (page 10 out of 15)
    • Nottingham: 70.1 confirmed cases per 100,000 of population (page 10 out of 15)
    • Nottinghamshire: 61.8 confirmed cases per 100,000 of population (page 11 out of 15)
    • Leicestershire: 55.3 confirmed cases per 100,000 of population (page 11 out of 15)
  • There are tentative signs that “the curve may be flattening” according to the government’s chief scientific adviser.

I wish you the most enjoyable Easter Weekend possible in the circumstances. Stay positive and stay smiling.
