12th June 2020 – What A Mess!

I trust you’ve had an OK week…..

So this time last week, I told you that we would be reopening our appointment book around now to all those clients who had either purchased a “10 for 8” package at the end of 2019, or who already had an appointment purchased and booked in for sometime during the period 23rd March – 4th July. The plan was to give anyone in this category this weekend to book in your appointments for Saturday 4th July onwards, then we would have opened our appointment book to the rest of our lovely clients from the start of next week.

This is where we are now with that plan:

Everyone’s got to wait until next week, I’m afraid! I just feel like the government is being extremely non-committal about the actual reopening dates of the hospitality and personal care industries, due to its repeated use of the line that these kinds of businesses “will open from 4th July at the very earliest.”

The date of 4th July is just not sounding like a dead cert to me, and for the sake of a few more days, I think it’s better not to waste anyone’s time, or to cause any undue inconvenience or hassle, which is exactly what would happen if we were to accept a load of bookings for 3 weeks’ time only to quickly find out that we’re not actually allowed to fulfil them.

So please do sit tight for now. And once again, I would reassure you all that when we do eventually reopen there will be plenty of appointments to go round!

I’m sure I’m not the only one to be feeling extremely frustrated and hacked off by the lack of certainty at this point! And of course, we’re talking about so much more than not being able to get a wax or a lash and brow treatment, aren’t we? I just want to know now when my children might be able to go back to school and see their friends and whether that’s even a realistic prospect for September, let alone this academic year (which clearly it isn’t, for this year). I would also LOVE to ask someone in the know how on earth they expect me to actually keep the business going, if the schools do continue to remain shut, given that my husband has no choice but to carry on working at his employed job so at least we have some guaranteed money coming into the household. Obviously so many working parents are in exactly the same nightmare-ish predicament.

I want to know if we’ll be allowed out to a pub or restaurant to celebrate my son’s 10th birthday next month with his grandparents who miss him so much, and I want to know if I’ve got any chance of getting any income at all for the business in July, after not obviously not making any sales whatsoever throughout April, May and June.

And I’m one of the lucky ones! Clearly, there are so many people who are a million times worse off than me due to the not knowing what on earth lies ahead, and if you’re one of those people then my heart really does go out to you.

What a mess!

Sorry for the rant but it’s just been one of those weeks! Oh well, I’m sure a nice rainy weekend with nowhere to go, no one to see and no money to spend will make everything seem so much better 😉

I hope you have a good one at least!

P.S. I should say at this point that I pride myself on generally being an optimistic and positive person. I very much subscribe to the mindset that everyone gets to choose whether today is going to be a good day. I’ve tried really hard to make this week a good week, but sometimes the stars just don’t align, do they! On the upside, however, next week is a new week, so I’ll be getting up on Monday, raring to go and ready to make it a great (ish!) week!
