Wow. So it’s 1st May today. I for one will be raising a glass tonight to celebrate the fact that April 2020 is over. It’s certainly going to be a month that goes down in history isn’t it, but for all the wrong reasons. I guess that applies more than anyone to our esteemed leader, Boris Johnson (!). I spoke a few times early on in these blogs about finding reasons to be grateful and “not being Boris in April” is a good enough reason for me to feel appreciative right now!
Joking aside, I’m sure we’re all agreed that we never want to see another month like that again in any of our lives, in terms of the immense strain and pressure that was put on the NHS and care system, and the unbearable suffering and heartache that was endured by too many people.
But if you were lucky enough to not be one of those people (which is the category that I am fortunate to sit in, as I know that the majority of you are too), then it really wasn’t all bad, was it? For so many people, including me, it’s hard to deny that so many positives have actually come out of this altered way of life. And while I think we need to be wary of not putting on rose-tinted glasses, I do think that the following video is a particularly poignant and fitting homage to April 2020 for a huge part of the population (even though it was actually made at the start of the month).
I certainly experienced a different way of living in April and ended up spending time doing things that I never would have done, had the circumstances been different. Do I hope to carry on with some of these positives once life goes back to normal? Absolutely. Do I think that will actually happen? Who knows, but what is for sure that I’m the master of my own destiny in this respect so if I fail in my mission to carry the positives forward, I’ll only have one person to blame.
Well done for getting through April, I’m sure that whatever the month looked like for you, you were amazing. And as for May? Well, what can we say, apart from “bring it on”!
Take care for now
