9th June 2020 – Be Kind.

I saw a post over the weekend that resonated with me. The following are not my words, but they are very much my sentiments.

As lockdown starts to ease….. you decide for you, I’ll decide for me. None of us have the same circumstances (medically high-risk child/ family member or a business about to go under, etc.) Let’s all stay in our own lanes and keep the judgement down as we begin to unlock. No one should feel pressured either way. Just a thought… We’re all trying to figure out how to ease back into normal, so please remember:

  • Some people don’t agree with the unlocking…. that’s ok. Be kind.
  • Some people are still planning to stay at home…. that’s ok. Be kind.
  • Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening…. that’s ok. Be kind.
  • Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may not lose their business or their homes….that’s ok. Be kind.
  • Some are thankful they can finally have the surgery they have had put off….that’s ok. Be kind.
  • Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job….that’s ok. Be kind.
  • Some will wear masks for weeks…. that’s ok. Be kind.
  • Some people will rush out to get their hair or nails done…. that’s ok. Be kind.

The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings and that’s ok. Be kind.

We each have a different story. If you need to stay at home, stay at home. But be kind. If you need to go out, just respect others when in public and be kind!

Don’t judge fellow humans because you’re not in their story. We all are in different mental states than we were three months ago. So remember, be kind.

Please copy & paste & post as I did.

The disparities between everyone’s individual situations during this period, and also where everyone individually sits on the “spectrum” of what is reasonable and rationale behaviour and what isn’t, has truly fascinated me as I have observed it happen. How you can have really good friends or really close family members who you previously thought you were so similar to. Yet during the past 3 months you realise what completely different beings you are due to how you’ve each each dealt with and reacted to this situation, and how you plan to deal with it as it unfolds from here.

I think those differences are going to come to the fore even more so in the next few months, which I must admit is something that worries me. For example, as we look towards reopening nkd ( ) as a business, I know already that some of the measures we will choose to put in place will seem incredibly OTT to some, while being woefully inadequate to others. That’s going to be a tricky tightrope to walk and it’s not one that I’m looking forward to!

Generally speaking, the whole #bekind mantra has really got my goat. But actually I do think it’s going to be relevant over the next few months as we all try and navigate ourselves out of this mess and back into some kind of normal (there’s that word again!) life. So in that respect, I hope we can all truly be kind and respect other people’s boundaries, even if they are very different to our own.

Take care,
Rebecca at nkd ( )
