If you’re still unsure, we suggest that you either pop into our salon or call us on 0115 924 1454 for further advice before booking your appointment and we’ll be very happy to chat through the options with you.
These days there are a number of ways you can get longer-looking lashes without the need for eyelash extensions:
Lash Lifting: Now the UK’s most popular lash treatment, Lash lifting is a stunning alternative to eyelash extensions, as a treatment which enhances your natural eyelashes to create the impression of thicker, longer lashes for up to 6 weeks. Lash lifting is great for clients who want a low-maintenance solution and for clients who would not suit a heavier lash look, either because they are pale-skinned and/or fair-haired or because they don’t wear much make-up.
RevitaLash: RevitaLash is a startlingly-effective Advanced Eyelash Conditioner which has the dual effect of making your lashes longer, thicker and fuller (believe us when we say it really does…) while also improving their condition to improve their flexibility, moisture and shine. Used together, RevitaLash and LVL is a stunning combination.
Magnifibres: Magnifibres are natural fibres that you apply between mascara coats which instantly lengthen your lashes by up to 5mm. Magnifibres contains conditioning Panthenol and is safe to use with contact lenses.
Lash Tint: A simple eyelash tint is such a quick and cheap solution, yet can make your natural eyelashes look noticeably longer, without the need for any other longer, more expensive and high-maintenance treatments!
We recommend eyelash tinting to all lash extension clients for the simple reason that you get a better end result. Having lash extensions applied to tinted lashes will help the two blend together better and will make the finished look more voluminous, thicker and full-looking.
Furthermore, if your natural lashes are fairer than the extensions, the extensions can be visible and obvious.
Please be aware that your lash tint must be carried out a minimum of 24 hours before your lashes are applied. Of course, this choice is entirely up to you. Having a lash tint will add time and cost to the treatment, but your lash extensions will look better for it.
Yes, we stock a range of individual lash lengths, thicknesses and curvatures so you can choose exactly which look you would like according to your lifestyle and preference. Your therapist will discuss this with you prior to your treatment, and whether you would like your finished lashes to look beautifully natural, very dramatic or somewhere inbetween.
This depends entirely on which type of extensions you have chosen to have. As a guide, we have listed the maximum stay-on time for each lash solution below, as advised by the lash manufacturers.
Semi-Permanent Lash Extensions: Up to 8 – 12 weeks as long as you look after your lashes with impeccable care at home and revisit us for regular lash infills.
LVL Lashes: The results of LVL Lashes can last for up to 6 weeks.
Let’s Go Express Lashes: Up to 2 weeks.
Let’s Go Cluster Lashes: Up to 1 week.
Let’s Go Strip Lashes: 1 day/1 night.
Please note, however, that there are many other factors which will dictate how long your lash extensions stay on for and it’s very difficult to predict this for first-time lash customers. These factors include your general lifestyle, e.g. whether you do a lot of sport or whether you wear at a lot of make-up. The natural state of your eyes and your habits – do your eyes get tired and irritated easily, are they watery, do you rub them a lot, even subconsciously? The care you are prepared to invest when removing your make-up and washing your face each morning and night and critically, the products you apply to your face at home? Even the way you sleep can affect how long your lashes stay on for.
We will discuss this with you in more detail prior to your appointment but it’s important to realise that some people’s eyes take well to lashes and others don’t. We genuinely see clients whose semi-permanent lashes are almost as good as new after 6 weeks, whereas for other clients, their semi-permanent lashes may be fast-disappearing after 6 days. Unfortunately, this is the reality of lash extensions and there’s very little we can do about it.
Taking extreme care and using the right products at home will help your lashes stay on for longer. For example, using oil-free eye make-up remover is absolutely essential, as is taking care to ensure that the cleansers, moisturisers and other products you use around your eyes do not contain oil.
Be extremely careful when cleaning the eyes, especially around the lash line. Often this is better done with the tip of a clean finger for precision and delicateness.
You need to be constantly aware of how you treat your eyes, for example you must avoid rubbing them even when you’re tired (unfortunately, people often do this subconsciously).
As we note above, it’s important to realise that for some clients, unfortunately their lashes do not want to stay on for very long even if they care incredibly well for their lashes at home, while other clients are lucky enough to have much more robust lashes.
- Do not wash your eyes, and try to avoid crying, sweat, and steam for 24 hours after the application of your semi-permanent lashes.
- Do not swim or use a spa for 48 hours after lash application to allow adequate time for bonding.
- Be gentle with your lashes — avoid rubbing and pulling your eyelashes.
- Avoid oil-based and waterproof mascara. Only our specially formulated mascara for extensions can be worn. Regular mascara is not recommended for use as it will dissolve the bond with the lashes. Gently remove mascara with water-based eye makeup remover. Apply mascara on the tips only.
- Avoid any creams, eye makeup removers/ wipes, lotions, sunscreens or cleansers containing oils on or near your eyelashes. Oils can loosen the bond of lash extensions. Care must be taken to apply eye cream sparingly with avoidance of the lash line area.
- Do NOT use an eyelash curler on your extensions.

If you’ve had semi-permanent lash extensions applied, we’d recommend that you book your first infill appointment 2 weeks after your first appointment, to keep your new lashes looking impeccable.
Other lash extensions, which aren’t semi-permanent, cannot be infilled.
We will assess this when you return for your first infill appointment and advise then. Some clients return weekly for 10 minute infills whereas other clients might leave it 3 weeks and return for a 30 minute infill. It really depends on how well your eyes have taken to the extensions, how well you are looking after them at home, how pristine you want your lashes to remain looking, and how much time and money you’re prepared to invest in infills.
After 3 months, we’d recommend that you have your old lashes fully removed and a completely new set applied.
- You will need a patch test at least 24 hours before semi-permanent lash extensions and LVL Lash treatments.
- We take prepayments ahead of most lash appointments in order to secure the slot. We request that you make this prepayment at the time of booking.
- If we are unable to reach you 24 hours before your appointment and you haven’t had a patch test or haven’t made a prepayment, we will cancel your appointment out of the book.
- Unless you explicitly inform us otherwise, we will assume that you will not have any existing lashes on that will need removing prior to your nkd lash treatment. If this is not the case, we may need to book out extra time to remove your existing lashes which will incur an additional charge.
- If possible, please try and come to your appointment not wearing any mascara or other eye make-up. The more time we spend removing your eye make-up, the less time we will have to apply the lashes/actually carry out the treatment!
- Most of our lash appointments are booked at £1.00 per 1 minute of time. Please ensure that you have the right type of lash appointment and the right amount of time booked out, so that you are not unnecessarily charged for time you didn’t use.
- In many instances, clients are recommended to have a lash tint prior to having their lashes applied. This will make your existing lashes look thicker and longer and will ensure that there is no colour difference between your natural lashes and the lashes we apply, leading to an all-round better result. However, this needs to be decided and booked in advance of your lash appointment.
- Don’t even think about getting lash extensions unless you’re willing to use oil-free eye make-up remover at home. Your new lashes WILL fall off without it! You can buy oil-free make-up remover from us if you don’t already have some at home.
Yes, we insist on patch testing all new lash clients prior to their first semi-permanent lash extension and first LVL Lashes appointments to check that you are not allergic to any of the products we use. This patch test much be carried out a minimum of 24 hours before your first lash appointment with us.
If you are booked in for other types of lash extensions, e.g. Express Lashes or Let’s Go Cluster/Strip Lashes, you will not need a patch test.
Generally speaking, contact lense wearers can have lash extensions yes, although you must remove them while your lashes are being applied.
Some contact lense wearers do report increased irritation with lash extensions, in which case we would recommend that you opt for LVL Lashes, which creates the illusion of far longer, thicker and fuller lashes without having any extensions applied.
You should avoid applying mascara and other make-up products around the eyes for 24 hours after treatment.
After that, you can wear mascara, but you should avoid waterproof mascara, or any other types of mascara which contain oil. nkd sells a mascara that has been especially formulated to wear with lash extensions.
Be aware that the more frequently you wear mascara, the more frequently you will have to remove it which could affect how long your extensions stay on for (frequent touching and rubbing the area with products will decrease the life of your lashes). We therefore recommend that you reserve mascara for those special occasions when wearing lash extensions.
If you visit a reputable salon that specialises in lash extensions then your natural lashes will not be damaged through the careful and proper application of lash extensions.
Trying to remove your lash extensions yourself, by picking at them, instead of having them professionally removed, could damage your natural lashes, however. For this reason, we recommend always having your lashes professionally removed.
The use of inappropriate adhesives for lashes they’re not designed for can also damage your lashes, so beware of any salons or therapists who tell you that they can apply strip or cluster lashes which will stay on for longer than the recommended time.
Remember that all eyelashes naturally shed every 90 days or so. So some of your natural eyelashes may fall out with the extension attached, but this is part of the normal regrowth cycle and that lash will naturally grow back.
Lash extensions can give a beautiful end result and many women nowadays wouldn’t be without them. However, other women simply find them too high-maintenance to deal with on a daily basis and want an easier solution. Lash extensions can also give quite a dramatic look which isn’t suitable for all women’s general daily lives.
LVL is therefore perfect for clients who want to maximise the potential of their natural lashes and/or who want a beautifully natural everyday look. It’s an extremely low-maintenance solution, which can really minimise the time of your daily getting-ready routine, as your lashes are already ready-curled when you get up. It’s also perfect for clients who either do not wear a lot of make-up and would not suit a heavier lash look and/or those who are pale-skinned and/or fair haired and so would not suit a heavier lash look.
On the other hand, LVL is not so great for clients who either want a dramatic “WOW look at those lashes” look or who have extremely short natural lashes.
We’ll always try and accommodate walk-in appointments where we can, but the reality is we’re usually so busy that we can’t! This is especially true for the longer appointment times that most lash treatments require. As such, our advice would be to always give us as much notice as you can to avoid disappointment.
If you want a short appointment – such as an eyebrow wax or thread – then we’ll often be able to fit you in if you pop by (assuming that you’ve already had the necessary patch tests). We do sometimes have other, longer slots, available at short notice on certain days, so it’s always worth giving us a quick call to check.

During busy times, we may open earlier. E.g. from 9am between Monday –Thursday and from 8am on a Friday and Saturday. If you would specifically like one of these early appointments, then please ask and we’ll see what we can do (advance notice is required).
We also offer breakfast treatments on certain days. These super-early morning/pre-work appointments mean that you don’t have to work a full day inbetween showering and getting nkd – and we’ll buy you breakfast at the end of it (really!). Three breakfast appointment slots are available: 7.30am, 8am and 8.30am. Please note that for all breakfast appointments, a minimum spend of £25 and prepayment in full is required. We don’t offer any discounts for breakfast appointments.
nkd is located in Nottingham city centre at 27 Pelham Street. Pelham Street is the hill that runs up to Hockley, from the city centre. So if you’re walking from the Market Square, you walk up the hill, keeping Zara to your right. You will pass Space NK, Sweaty Betty and Homemade café on your right hand side, and Thurland Street on your left. We’re further up the hill on the left, before you reach Hockley. We’re opposite Wired Café and Bodycraft Tattoo Parlour and next to Michael Levin, the jewellers.
We request prepayments in advance for a number of treatments, including all longer and more expensive treatments costing £35.00 or more, which includes most lash appointments. Unfortunately, we do have a lot of clients that either fail to show up altogether, or cancel/change their appointment at extremely short notice. As a small, independent business, this is a real problem for us, as we simply can’t afford to pay our therapists to stand around doing nothing! It’s also unfair on other clients, who would have happily booked in and paid for that slot if it had been free.
We politely request that you make your prepayment at the time of booking. If you’re unable to do this for any reason, then we will need to take the prepayment at least 24 – 48 hours before your appointment. If we can’t get hold of you at that time (we will try several times) then we are likely to cancel your appointment out of the book.
The more notice you can give us please to cancel an appointment the better, but we require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice and we are unable to fill your appointment slot, or if you fail to turn up, we will retain any prepayment on your account/charge you in full for the missed appointment and will require prepayment in full ahead of all future appointments.
We also request a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to change an appointment time.
You need to call us on 0115 924 1454 to keep us informed of your movements. If we can move your appointment time back, we will do, but if we have another client booked in immediately after you and no other therapists are free, we’ll be unable to do this.
Depending on the time of arrival, late arrivals may be offered a reduced treatment or turned away altogether, but you would still be charged in full for the original appointment booked.
If you’re a first-time client, you should arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time to fill out a consultation card. This will involve you giving us your main contact details and any basic medical details we need to know about (e.g. whether you have sensitive skin or any known allergies, whether you’re pregnant, etc). Your therapist may speak to you about the information you have given us on this card in in the privacy of your treatment room before your treatment starts.
For subsequent appointments as a repeat client, we politely request that you arrive 5 minutes before your appointment time to ensure a prompt start.
