We’re not going to beat around the bush here (pun intended). The bad news is that if you’re a complete waxing virgin down there, you may experience some discomfort during your first Brazilian wax.
How much discomfort you will feel, however, will depend on several different factors, including:
• what kind of hair type you have down there and how much of it there is
• which hair removal methods you have used in the past
• your hormone balance on the day
• your own personal pain thresholds
For example, if you have regularly shaved the area in the past and have naturally thick, dense and/or coarse hair, then the level of discomfort you will feel on your first Brazilian wax is likely to be greater than a non-shaver with sparser and finer hair. Where you are in your monthly cycle can also affect your sensitivity levels a little, as can being pregnant (but if it’s any consolation, your Brazilian wax will seem like a breeze compared to giving birth 😉
We’d be lying if we said anything different to that and we’d urge you to treat with caution any waxing therapist or salon who promises a pain-free FIRST Brazilian wax without first seeing the area to be waxed/what your particular hair growth and type is like.
But the good news is that we can absolutely promise you that the first time will be the worst! In fact, you would not believe how much more comfortable a wax is once you are only waxing regrowth (e.g. 4 – 6 weeks after your previous wax) compared to full growth. From then on, it’s a walk in the park…
You’re not going to get a wax that hurts less than it does at nkd. Our therapists are intensely trained and highly skilled and we have developed a number of techniques over the years to minimise the pain. In fact, we now teach the art of specialist waxing to beauty therapists and salon managers all over the country from our nkd training school, so they can learn to wax like we do.
