What to Expect From Your Hollywood Wax

At nkd, our priority is to comfortably and efficiently remove every single hair from your intimate areas in the quickest and most fuss-free manner possible.

Here’s what to expect on the day of your appointment:

After introducing herself and inviting you to your comfortable and private treatment room, your therapist will leave you to remove all clothing below your waist (yes, including your knickers - your therapist needs a clear workspace to do her job)! She will also leave you with some intimate wipes to freshen up the area and a towel to protect your modesty.
Your therapist will make sure you feel comfortable and at ease as you lay down on your back on the treatment couch. She will use only the highest-quality products to ensure the best possible results from your wax and will continually chat to you about what she’s doing and why so you’re never taken by surprise! Starting at the front, the therapist will then wax all the way down, underneath and around the back. At times, she will help you position your legs in a certain way so that she can reach all the hair, and may ask you to stretch your skin at times to keep it taut while she waxes.
We always try to avoid having to flip you over on all fours when removing the hair from around the back. Instead, your therapist will ask you to draw your knees into your chest for a short time, or to lie on your side.
In certain instances (e.g. you’re pregnant, you have mobility issues or we can’t reach all of the hair for other reasons), we may ask you to turn over so that we can be sure of succeeding in our mission of leaving you totally hairless and smooth.
As with all waxes, once the therapist is finished, she’ll double-check the area before asking you to check to make sure you’re completely happy with it too. She will then finish off the treatment by applying some luxurious cooling and soothing products.
Throughout your wax, your therapist will chat to you about the aftercare products you can use at home and when to book in for your next appointment to achieve the best possible results, in terms of staying as smooth and hair-free for as long as possible in between every appointment.

Important Information

Cancellation Policy and Late Changes: We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice (and more time if possible) to cancel or change your appointment. If you cancel or change your appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice, or if you fail to show up for your appointment, your appointment will be charged for in full, using the card details we hold on file for you. Unless we’re able to fill your slot with another client, no refunds will be issued and no free-of-charge appointment reschedules will be made.
Late Arrivals: Any late arrivals may be offered a reduced treatment time or turned away altogether, depending on your time of arrival. No refunds will be issued in this instance. If you’re a first-time client, we politely ask that you arrive 5 – 10 minutes before your appointment time to fill out a consultation card. If you’re an existing clients, please try and arrive at least 3 – 5 minutes before your appointment time to ensure a prompt start.
Patch Tests: Certain lash & brow treatments require a patch test a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Patch tests do not have to be pre-booked and can be carried out at any time during the salons’ opening times.
Regrowth: Please ensure that you have the necessary hair regrowth for all waxing treatments. We recommend that you do not wax, shave or remove the hair in any other way for a minimum of 3 weeks before your waxing appointment (4 – 6 weeks if possible) to get the best results. In the event of insufficient regrowth, we will carry out the treatment to the best of our abilities. This will mean that any hair that is too short to be waxed will not be removed on this occasion.

Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my Hollywood wax?

Gently exfoliating your skin with a gentle scrub a couple of days before your appointment and moisturising the area afterwards will help you get the best results from your wax.

Gently exfoliating and moisturising your skin with a gentle scrub a couple of days before your appointment will help you get the best results from your wax.

IF you already have a suitable scrub, then gently exfoliating the area a couple of days before your wax can help. Exfoliating clears dead skin and other debris, which helps untrap any hairs that may be struggling to break through. Be careful not to use anything that’s too harsh, abrasive or heavily-perfumed though as it’s important not to irritate the area!

Be sure to have a shower and put on clean underwear on the day of your wax to ensure you are clean and fresh when we see you.

If you don’t regularly exfoliate, you’re likely to have a lot of dead skin that traps hairs underneath it, which could lead to ingrowns or may mean that the wax just can’t grab all of the hairs. By exfoliating and removing the dead skin, you’ll be releasing those hairs, making it possible to remove them. Just make sure not to irritate the area!

Please do not apply any product (e.g. moisturisers) to the area being waxed on the day of your appointment!

I’ve got very sensitive skin- will this be a problem?

It shouldn’t be a problem, no. Every new client at nkd will have a pre-wax consultation, during which we’ll ask about your skin type and other relevant medical details, which we’ll then make a note of on your file so we can be sure to use the most appropriate products for you.

We use Perron Rigot’s gentle Cirépil Euroblonde non-strip wax for all intimate and bikini waxing at nkd, which is specially developed for the optimum removal of the hair in this area.

How long should my hair be for my first Hollywood wax?

The high quality of the wax we use at nkd means that we can reach the shorter, finer hairs better than most other waxes. However, we still recommend a minimum of 4 weeks’ regrowth to get the best results. If you have removed the hair via waxing/shaving/plucking or any other way any less than 4 weeks ago, then please bear in mind that although we may still be able to carry out your wax, you are likely to get some regrowth quite soon after your treatment. We advise that you do not book an appointment if you removed your hair less than 3 weeks ago.

Worried that your pubic hair is too long? No problem- if it needs to be trimmed, we’ll do this for you as part of your treatment. Please do not trim at home beforehand.

Can I have a Hollywood wax while I’m menstruating?

Absolutely, as long as you wear a tampon or menstrual cup during your treatment.

Please note that nkd’s strict 24-hour cancellation and appointment change policy applies at all times. We are unable to cancel or change appointments free-of-charge with less than 24 hours’ notice, even if you are on your period. If you are not prepared or able to wear a tampon or menstrual cup and are booked in for an intimate wax, then your options are to either; replace your intimate wax with an alternative treatment of equivalent length and value; find someone else to take your appointment slot; or forfeit your appointment on the day, understanding that you be will charged in full unless we manage to fill your slot with another paying client. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this delicate matter.

Which products can I use on my intimate areas?

This is a great question, and one which you should pay close attention to, as using the wrong products on your intimate areas could lead to significant discomfort and irritation.

At nkd we have used our years of experience and expertise to create the perfect products for your at home aftercare – suitable for use immediately post-waxing as well as your daily/ everyday use. nkd’s essential aftercare products include a cleansing body wash, exfoliating body scrub and soothing body balm.

We also sell more specific products, such as specialist ingrown hair solutions for problem areas, and anti-regrowth solutions to help reduce the amount of hair that grows back.

We recommend that you talk to your therapist about these products when you come in for your appointment. We’d also strongly advise against picking out any old scrub/cream from the back of your bathroom cabinet to use before and after your wax. The fact is that most exfoliators and moisturisers shouldn’t be used on intimate areas, so please proceed with caution here!

Is there anything else I need to know or do on the day of my Hollywood wax appointment?

Please try and arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. We are a busy salon with back-to-back appointments. For any clients who do arrive late, we may be able to carry out part of the original treatment (depending on how late you are), or you will need to book – and pay for – a new appointment time. In both scenarios, the original booked appointment will still be charged in full.

Please remember that we have a strict 24-hour appointment change and cancellation policy. Any appointments that are cancelled or changed with less than 24’ hours notice, and all no-show appointments, will be charged in full, using the card details we hold on file for you.
