If you’ve never had a male intimate wax before, it’s completely normal to wonder whether it might feel embarrassing.
For many first-time clients, it’s one of the biggest concerns before booking an appointment.
The reality, however, is usually very different from what people imagine.
From your therapist’s perspective, intimate waxing is simply another professional treatment. Whilst your appointment is personal to you, for an experienced waxing specialist it’s a normal part of the working day.
Most clients tell us afterwards that the anticipation was far worse than the appointment itself.

Will my therapist judge me?Â
No.
Professional waxing therapists treat people of all ages, body shapes and backgrounds every day.
Over the years, we’ve seen virtually every body shape, hair type and level of hair growth imaginable.
We’re not looking for perfection.
We’re not making comparisons.
And we’re certainly not judging anybody’s appearance.
Our job is simply to provide a safe, professional treatment whilst helping you achieve the best possible results.

What if I’m self-conscious?Â
Many clients feel self-conscious before their first appointment.
Some worry about:
- the amount of hair they haveÂ
- their body shapeÂ
- scars or stretch marksÂ
- skin conditionsÂ
- whether they’ve left it “too long”Â
- how they’ll feel being so exposedÂ
These feelings are completely understandable.
Fortunately, they usually disappear surprisingly quickly once the appointment begins.
Your therapist will be focused on carrying out your treatment safely, efficiently and professionally—not analysing your body.

Do therapists really not get embarrassed?Â
Professional waxing therapists are trained to treat intimate areas professionally and respectfully.
During your appointment, their attention is focused on things such as:
- your comfortÂ
- your safetyÂ
- hair growth patternsÂ
- skin conditionÂ
- waxing techniqueÂ
- achieving the best possible resultÂ
It’s a highly skilled treatment that requires concentration.
Your body simply isn’t being viewed in the same way that you might imagine.

What if I get an erection?Â
This is another concern that prevents some men from booking.
The first thing to say is that an involuntary erection can occasionally happen.
The intimate area contains a large number of nerves and the body’s physical responses aren’t always something we consciously control.
Professional therapists understand this.
An involuntary erection is not automatically embarrassing and it is not, in itself, a reason to stop treatment.
If it happens, there’s usually no need to apologise.
Your therapist will simply allow a little time for things to settle before continuing.
What matters is how the client behaves.
Deliberate sexual behaviour, inappropriate comments or actions that make a therapist feel uncomfortable are entirely different matters and will not be tolerated.
You can read more in our Professional Conduct Policy, which explains the standards we expect from everyone attending an intimate waxing appointment.

Will we be talking the whole time?Â
Only if you want to.
Some clients enjoy chatting throughout the appointment.
Others prefer a quieter experience.
Many simply have a normal conversation about work, holidays, football or everyday life.
Equally, if you’d rather relax quietly, that’s absolutely fine too.
Your appointment is about making you feel comfortable, not forcing conversation.

Can I listen to music or use my phone?Â
Yes.
Many clients choose to chat with their therapist.
Others prefer listening to music or scrolling on their phone during parts of the appointment.
Whatever helps you feel more relaxed is usually absolutely fine, provided it doesn’t interfere with the treatment itself.

Does the embarrassment disappear?Â
For most clients, yes.
The first appointment is usually the one that causes the most anxiety.
Once clients realise how professional and routine the experience actually is, those worries often disappear.
Many people tell us afterwards that they spent far more time worrying beforehand than was ever necessary.
By the second or third appointment, most clients arrive feeling significantly more relaxed because they know exactly what to expect.

Choosing the right salon makes a differenceÂ
Feeling comfortable starts long before you walk into the treatment room.
Choosing a salon that specialises in intimate waxing can make a huge difference to your confidence.
At nkd, every new male intimate waxing client receives:
- a mandatory consultation call with our Salon Manager before their first appointmentÂ
- a consultation form to complete before arrivingÂ
- the opportunity to ask questions before booking or attendingÂ
- clear explanations of how the appointment worksÂ
- professional therapists who regularly carry out male intimate waxingÂ
Knowing what to expect helps remove much of the uncertainty that first-time clients often feel.
If you’d like to know exactly what happens during your appointment, our guide What Happens During a Male Intimate Wax? A Step-by-Step Guide explains the process from start to finish.

Most clients wish they’d done it soonerÂ
It’s completely natural to feel a little nervous before your first male intimate wax.
Almost everyone does.
The important thing to remember is that whilst the appointment may be completely new to you, it’s something your therapist does on a regular basis.
Within a few minutes, most clients find themselves wondering why they were so worried in the first place.
The embarrassment is usually short-lived.
The confidence that comes from knowing what to expect often lasts much longer.
