I want to know more about Lash Lifting

If you want to know more about lash lifting, what is it, how it looks and if it’s right for you then visit our knowledge centre where we answer all these questions and more!

What’s the best way to book a lash or brow appointment at nkd?

You can ring our salons (link to contact us) and speak to one of our friendly receptionists when we’re open, or leave a message if we’re closed, and we’ll call you straight back the next morning.

You can email us on in**@nk*******.com, with details of which treatment you’d like and when, and we’ll reply ASAP.

You can book an appointment online here, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for with online booking, then we’d recommend that you give us a ring.

Or of course, you can pop by our lovely salon and book in person!

Regardless of how you book, remember that if it’s your first appointment at nkd, you will need to visit the salon at least 24 hours’ before your treatment for a patch test and to make a prepayment. If we’re unable to contact you about your patch test and prepayment and we don’t hear from you, we reserve the right to cancel your appointment out of the book.

Once you’ve been for your first treatment, we recommend that you book your next appointment before you leave the salon, so you can be sure of securing your preferred day and time.

What is threading and is it right for me?

Originating from the Middle East, threading is an increasingly popular form of hair removal for facial hair, such as eyebrows, upper lips, chins and the sides of your face. Your therapist will twist a piece of cotton with her fingers to trap the hairs and remove them from the root.

Threading is suitable for almost everyone, even those with very sensitive skin. This is because it quite literally uses nothing apart from a piece of cotton thread, so there is no heat, chemicals or anything else that could harm the delicate skin on your face.

Threading is ideal for creating or maintaining a perfect eyebrow shape, or for tidying up or removing other unwanted facial hair. Like waxing, after threading the hairs should grow back finer, softer and smoother afterwards.

Please do tell us if you are using Roaccutane (a medication usually used to treat extreme forms of acne) or if you know that you have particularly sensitive skin. In such instances, we may advise that only small areas of the face are threaded to start off with, to check that there will be no adverse reaction

To understand if waxing or threading is right for you, you can read our blog here (link to waxing vs threading blog)

How long will my appointment take?

Most of our facial threading (and waxing) appointments, including eyebrows, upper lips, chins, nostrils and ears are ten minutes long. This makes it imperative that you arrive for your appointment in good time, as we’re unlikely to have sufficient time to carry out your treatment if you arrive late.

Our treatments such as HD Brows and Henna Brows take longer as they are multi step treatments.

Will my face be red after a waxing or threading treatment?

The area you have just had waxed or threaded may appear slightly red for a short time after your treatment, yes. Immediately after your treatment, we’ll apply some cooling gel which will soothe the area and reduce the redness.

Clients are very welcome to sit in our waiting room and read a magazine until the redness disappears. We do also sell some great handbag size products which you can buy for use after every treatment to mask the redness (see the next question).

If you book in for a full Brow treatment (HD, Henna or bespoke) appointment, as opposed to a simple wax, thread, or tint, we will apply make-up to the area at the end of the treatment which will hide any redness around your brows.

Are there any products I can buy to mask the redness after waxing or threading?

Yes, we sell a number of mini products that are ideal for this purpose. For example, you can buy a tube of soothing aloe vera or witchhazel gel, which will soothe, calm and cool the area after waxing or threading and which will help to alleviate any redness. Tinted and antibacterial/astringent versions are also available.

These mini 35ml tubes will easily fit into your pocket or your handbag and will last all year, so for just £3.00 are a wise investment!

We also sell a range of High Definition (HD Brow) make-up products which can also be used immediately after treatment and which will mask the redness. Speak to your therapist about these if you’re interested.

Can I apply make-up and moisturiser after having my face waxed/threaded?

In general the rule is no. You’re advised to avoid applying most make-up products for around 4 hours after your threading treatment, unless it’s mineral make-up or another specialist product which has been formulated especially for use after these treatments.

Try and avoid putting anything else on your face in that time as well. The exception to this is specialist soothing gels — for example with cooling or antiseptic properties such as aloe vera or witchhazel — which again have been formulated especially for this purpose.

How long should I leave between waxing/threading appointments?

3-weeks is usually a good interval between brow and other facial waxing or threading appointments. Any longer and you may start to see stray hairs around your brows or on other areas of your face which you may be tempted to pluck or tweeze yourself. To get the best results from your treatments, we recommend that you don’t do this!

Can you make my brows thicker?

On your first appointment, we may be able to help you make your brows look thicker, but we can’t make them physically thicker! Although it involves the removal of some hair, a good brow reshape can make your brows look thicker. Meanwhile, an eyebrow tint certainly has this effect. We’d urge anyone out there who has never had their brows tinted to give this quick and cheap treatment a try, as you may be stunned by the results.

A standard brow waxing or threading appointment is 10 minutes long and there’s only so much we can achieve in this time. For a far more comprehensive brow reshape and colour, HD Brows or Henna Brows are more appropriate appointments which can definitely make your brows look thicker, mostly through the clever use of make-up.

If you’re willing to put in some time and investment, most brows can be encouraged to grow back thicker over time. In this instance we would work with you on a regrowth plan. We sell a product called RevitaBrow which we would strongly recommend to any clients wanting to encourage brow regrowth. RevitaBrow is a highly-effective advanced eyebrow conditioner which has the dual effect of making your brow hair longer, thicker and fuller while also conditioning the hair to make the brows look much healthier. Please ask us in the salon for more details.

I’ve never had my brows tinted. How will I know if it’s suitable for me?

Eyebrow tinting is a fantastic treatment which can make a dramatic difference to most people’s faces. It is suitable for almost everyone, although a patch test is necessary a minimum of 24 hours before your first tinting treatment with us. A tiny proportion of people will have a mild reaction to this patch test, in which case we are unable unable to proceed with the tinting treatment.

Tinting is especially effective for people with Caucasian hair. If you have Asian or African hair, it may already be very dark in which case you may not see the benefits of a tinting treatment. If you’re unsure, please visit our salon where we can assess your individual brows and make a personal recommendation for you.

Tinting can dramatically enhance your brow shape. It’s a little-known fact that eyelashes and eyebrows deteriorate as we age, starting from our mid to late 20s. Just like our skin and hair, eyelashes and eyebrows get thinner, sparser and more brittle as the years pass by, and the colour fades out of them. For this reason, regular eyebrow tinting appointments are a must-have beauty treatment for all savvy women, not least because it’s one of the quickest and cheapest beauty treatments to have these days, but also one that can make the most dramatic difference to your face!

If you’ve never had an eyebrow tint, we’d urge you to try one, even if you don’t think you need or would benefit from one! You’ll probably be thrilled with the results! Meanwhile, for a more comprehensive eyebrow tinting and recolouring service, you should consider trying HD or Henna Brows.

Will tinting make my brows look very dark?

Before your treatment begins, we will assess your skin and hair colour and discuss with you your desired end result in terms of how you would like your brows to look, before deciding which shade of tint would be best for you. For example, we would never use black tint on someone who is very fair, so you don’t need to worry about coming out your treatment with massive black caterpillars in place where your eyebrows used to be!

We can always add more tint but we can’t remove it. For this reason, we will always err on the side of caution, which means that we may apply and remove the tint several times before we reach the desired shade. Every time we remove it, we will ask you if it’s dark enough. If not, we’ll simply reapply it until it is dark enough, even if we have to reapply 10 times!

That said, we’d always recommend that you have your brow tint at least one shade darker than you would ideally like it. Otherwise, you may find that the tint fades very quickly. The darker you go, the longer the results will last for.

  • Which treatments do I need a patch test for?

You need a patch test for all tinting treatments (e.g. lash and brow tinting) and HD, Henna Brows. You also need a patch test for certain lash treatments like lash lifts. You must have your patch test at least 24 hours before your appointment.

I’ve had a patch test elsewhere. Do I still need one at nkd?

Yes, even if you’ve had a patch test and tinting treatments in the past at other salons, you will still need a patch test at least 24 hours before all first-time tinting and HD Brow treatments at nkd.

What will happen in a patch test?

We will apply a tiny amount of product either behind your ear or on your forearm. For tinting, Henna and HD Brows, this product will be tint and for lash treatments it will be glue. We will ask you to sign and date a form stating that you have had a patch with us.

The process will take no more than a few minutes. The therapist carrying out the patch test will explain to you the signs of reaction you should be looking out for, e.g. any mild itching or swelling in the area. You must inform us in the case of these symptoms, in which case we would cancel the appointment at no charge to you. Otherwise, we will proceed with the treatment as planned.

Do I need to book a patch test in advance or can I just walk in?

You do not need to book patch tests in advance. You can just walk in any time we’re open for a patch test. At the most, you’ll have to wait a few minutes in the event that our reception is extremely busy.

Can I have a patch test on the same day as my appointment?

No, your patch test must be carried out a minimum of 24 hours before your first tinting, Henna, HD Brow or semi-permanent lash treatment with us.

Can I sign a disclaimer form instead of having a patch test?

No, we’re sorry but no patch test no appointment. We do not offer the option of signing a disclaimer instead.

Do I need to book a waxing/threading/tinting/HD Brows appointment in advance, or can I just walk in?

We’ll always try and accommodate walk-in appointments where we can, but the reality is we’re usually so busy that we can’t! As such, our advice would be to always give us as much notice as you can to avoid disappointment.

If you want a short appointment – such as an eyebrow wax or thread – then we’ll often be able to fit you in if you pop by. We do sometimes have other, longer slots, available at short notice on certain days, so it’s always worth giving us a quick call to check.

But generally speaking, if you want a longer appointment, if you’re at all restricted in the time you can come for your wax (e.g. if you want to come between 5 and 8pm in the evening, or on a busy day such as a Friday), or you want to see a specific therapist, then advance notice is most definitely recommended!

Can I get waxed/threaded/tinted/HD Brows if I’m pregnant?

Absolutely, yes! You should bear in mind, however, that throughout pregnancy, your skin may be more sensitive than usual and your wax or thread may feel more uncomfortable than it otherwise would.

Please make sure you tell us if you are pregnant, even in the early stages, as it’s important that we keep your medical notes up to date on our consultation cards so that we can always treat you in the safest and most-effective manner.
