Male Intimate Waxing FAQs: Your Questions Answered

If you’re considering your first male intimate wax, you’ll probably have plenty of questions.

Some may seem practical.

Others may feel a little embarrassing to ask.

The good news is that almost every question has been asked before.

Below are some of the questions we’re most frequently asked by new clients. Where we’ve covered a topic in more detail elsewhere in our Knowledge Centre, we’ve included a link so you can read the full guide.

How long does a male intimate waxing appointment take?

A male intimate waxing appointment usually takes around 45–50 minutes

Your first appointment may take a little longer as we’ll review your consultation form, answer any questions you have and explain exactly what to expect before we begin.

Once you’re a regular client, appointments are often a little quicker because your therapist is already familiar with you and, as regular waxing encourages finer, softer and less dense regrowth, the treatment itself is often completed more efficiently. Regular clients can therefore expect appointments to take around 40–45 minutes, although this will always depend on the amount of hair being removed and your individual hair growth.

Should I shave before my appointment?

No.

Shaving before your appointment often means the hair is too short to wax effectively.

If the hair cannot be removed successfully, your appointment may need to be postponed until it has grown sufficiently.

Can I shave between waxing appointments?

We don’t recommend it.

Shaving interrupts the progress that regular waxing is making.

Maintaining appointments every 4–6 weeks allows your hair growth to become more consistent, helping the regrowth become finer, softer and often less dense over time.

How often should I get waxed?

For most clients, every 4–6 weeks provides the best long-term results.

Some people naturally have quicker hair growth and prefer appointments every four weeks, whilst others are comfortable waiting five or six weeks.

Your therapist can recommend the most suitable schedule based on your own hair growth.

Does male intimate waxing hurt?

There is some discomfort, particularly during your first appointment.

However, most clients find that regular waxing becomes noticeably more comfortable as the hair becomes finer, softer and less dense.

The first appointment is rarely representative of future waxes.

Will I stay smooth until my next appointment?

Hair grows in cycles, so some regrowth between appointments is completely normal.

During your first few waxes, you may notice regrowth sooner than expected because not every hair was ready to be removed during your previous appointment.

As your hair growth becomes synchronised through regular waxing, the skin usually stays smoother for longer.

Can I shower before my appointment?

Yes.

In fact, we expect you to arrive freshly showered or bathed wherever possible.

If you’ve travelled a long distance, have come straight from work or simply want to freshen up beforehand, cleansing wipes are available at the salon.

Please do not arrive for your wax straight after exercising without showering first.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing is usually the best choice.

Tight underwear or tight-fitting trousers can increase friction immediately after waxing, so many clients prefer something a little looser for the journey home.

Can I go to the gym afterwards?

We recommend avoiding the gym and any other activity that causes you to sweat for the first 24–48 hours after your wax.

Sweat, heat and friction can all irritate freshly waxed skin and increase the risk of ingrown hairs and other unwanted lumps and bumps.

This includes activities such as:

  • Gym workouts
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Team sports
  • Heavy manual work
  • Anything else that causes excessive sweating

Giving your skin a day or two to recover is one of the simplest ways to achieve better long-term results.

Can I go swimming after my wax?

We recommend avoiding swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers and the sea for the first 24–48 hours after your appointment.

Following a wax, the hair follicles remain slightly more open than usual, making it easier for bacteria to enter the skin.

Can I have sex after my wax?

It’s usually best to wait 24–48 hours before sexual activity.

This allows the skin time to settle and reduces unnecessary friction whilst the follicles recover.

How do I reduce the risk of ingrown hairs?

Good aftercare makes a huge difference.

We recommend:

  • waiting 48 hours before exfoliating
  • gently exfoliating every 2–3 days
  • cleansing the skin daily
  • moisturising every day
  • returning for regular waxing every 4–6 weeks

These simple habits help create the best environment for healthy hair growth.

Many clients use the (nkd) All-Over Body ScrubAll-Over Body Cleanser and All-Over Body Balm as part of their regular aftercare routine to help keep skin healthy between appointments.

What if I get an erection?

It’s a concern many first-time clients have.

An involuntary erection is a normal physical response and is not the same as sexual arousal.

Experienced therapists understand the difference.

If an involuntary erection occurs, treatment will usually continue, although your therapist may pause briefly if necessary before carrying on.

Is male intimate waxing embarrassing?

Most clients tell us afterwards that they were far more nervous before the appointment than they were during it.

Your therapist carries out intimate waxing on a regular basis and will treat your appointment professionally, respectfully and without judgement.

Can I bring someone with me?

No.

To protect your privacy, maintain a professional treatment environment and allow your therapist to work safely, friends, partners and family members are not permitted in the treatment room during male intimate waxing appointments.

What if I have a medical condition?

Certain medical conditions and medications can affect whether waxing is suitable.

That’s one of the reasons every new client completes a consultation form and has a consultation call with our Salon Manager before their first appointment.

If you’re unsure whether waxing is appropriate, simply let us know and we’ll be happy to advise.

What if I’m running late?

We ask all clients to arrive 5–10 minutes before their appointment time.

This allows for city centre traffic, parking, checking in and using the bathroom if required before your treatment begins.

We’re a busy salon and will usually have another client booked immediately after your appointment.

We’ll always try to accommodate late arrivals where possible, but arriving late will usually reduce the amount of treatment time available.

If there isn’t enough time to complete your full treatment, your therapist will ask which areas you would like to prioritise.

Please note that the full appointment fee will still be charged, regardless of whether there is sufficient time to complete every area.

Do I need to book my next appointment before I leave?

Yes—we strongly recommend it.

The best results from intimate waxing come from maintaining a regular routine, with most clients returning every 4–6 weeks

We’re a busy salon and appointments often become fully booked, particularly at popular times.

Before you leave, we’ll help you find a convenient day and time for your next appointment so you can stay on track with your waxing routine.

If your plans change, your appointment can always be rearranged, provided we receive at least 48 hours’ notice

Appointments cancelled or rearranged with less than 48 hours’ notice, together with missed appointments (no-shows), are charged in full in accordance with our cancellation policy.

Can I request a specific therapist for my treatment?

No.

In fact, we actively rotate clients between our therapists.

All of our waxing therapists are trained to the same high standard and follow the same treatment protocols, ensuring you receive a consistent experience regardless of who carries out your appointment.

Rotating clients also helps us maximise appointment availability and makes it easier for you to secure a convenient booking.

Is there parking at the salon?

No.

There is no customer parking at the salon itself.

The nearest public car park is Highcross Shopping Centre, which is just a short walk away.

Please allow plenty of time for parking and walking to the salon, particularly during busy periods.

Where is the salon located?

You’ll find us in St Martin’s Square, right in the heart of Leicester city centre.

If you’re visiting us for the first time, we recommend allowing a few extra minutes to find us so you can arrive relaxed and ready for your appointment.

Still have a question?

If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Our team will be happy to answer any questions you have before you book.

We’d much rather you arrived feeling informed and confident than worried about something that could easily have been explained.
